Soumitra Chatterjee – One of the most
important actors to emerge out of India in the last century. He has acted in 15
of Satyajit Ray films, including, Apur Sansar, Devi, Charulata and Ghare Baire.
He has received the 'Officier des Arts et Metiers', the highest award for arts
given by the French government, and a lifetime achievement award from Italy. He
was awarded the Padma Bhushan by the President of India in 2004. He has been
the subject of a full-length documentary by French director Catherine Berge.
Nandita Das - Nandita Das is known to world
audiences for her critically acclaimed performances in the films Fire, Earth
(both directed by Deepa Mehta), Bawander (directed by Jagmohan Mundhra) and
Amar Bhuvan (directed by Mrinal Sen). She has performed in over 25 feature
films, many of which have been showcased in numerous international film
festivals. She won the Best Actress award for her performance in the film
Bawander at the Santa Monica Film Festival (2001). She also won the Best
Actress award for her stellar performance in Amar Bhuvan at the Cairo Film
Festival (2002). In 2005 she was a jury at the Cannes Film Festival.
Tota RoyChowdhury – Tota RoyChowdhury shot
into the reckoning for his performance opposite Aishwariya Rai in the film
Chokher Bali directed by Rituparno Ghosh. He has also acted in such critically
acclaimed films such as “Shubho Moharat” and Dosar (both directed by Rituparno
Ghosh) and Shunno e Buke by Kaushik Ganguly.
June Maliah – June Maliah has
acted in numerous Bengali films, television serials and telefilms. She has also
featured in such critically acclaimed films such as Mondo Meyer Upakhyan
(directed by Buddhadev Dasgupta) and Neel Nirjane (directed by Subrata Sen).
Shabitri Chatterjee – Shabitri Chatterjee has
starred in many films opposite greats like Soumitra Chatterjee and Uttam Kumar.
She is one of the most important film and theater personalities of Bengal. In
2006 she received the “Lifetime Achievement Award” for her contribution to
Bengali cinema at the North American Banga Sammelan in Houston.
Sweta Dutta – Sweta Dutta is a child artiste
who has acted in several commercials. “Footsteps” is her first feature film.
