Director's Note
“According to Hindu philosophy, the human life cycle comprises of
four stages, called “ashramas”. From my perspective, the last stage,
which is the state of being old, in many aspects resembles the first
stage, childhood. It is as if life comes to a full circle at the end
making the process of ageing a reverse chronological process. In
this sense I was hugely inspired by F. Scott Fitzgerald’s short
story “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”, where a child is born
as an eighty year old man and ages in reverse chronology. Death
represents the birth of the child. “Footsteps” explores this facet
of human life where our protagonist becomes almost indistinguishable
at one point with that of a child. The narrative is structured as
three distinct segments and the milieu is contemporary Calcutta.”.
